5 Eco-Friendly Products to Try in 2016

Are you stressed out about the future of our warming, polluted planet and don’t know how to help? Well I was too, but I take some comfort in realizing that every individual action counts, including my own. For this reason, I have begun to discover the abundance of sustainable products that are available for us to purchase. So, here are my top five eco-friendly products to try in 2016 that can help steer you on the right path towards a greener life.

1. Seventh Generation – Household Cleaners

This is a great brand to help replace those toxic, chemically laden household cleaners, soaps and detergents within your home. This line utilizes natural, plant-based products that make them safe to use around the house without leaving any harmful residue for children or pets. Plus, it will leave your home spotless.

2. Bamboo

From toothbrushes, to cutting boards, to clothes and bed sheets – bamboo is becoming an increasingly popular material. Not only is bamboo renewable, but it’s also one of the most prolific and fastest growing plants in the world. This means it’s incredibly sustainable. Additionally, bamboo is softer than any cotton, absorbs 3-4 times more than cotton, and it is naturally anti-microbial, meaning it doesn’t require any harmful chemicals. Look for bamboo materials the next time you go shopping.

3. Recycled Clothes

No, I’m not talking about buying vintage or second-hand clothes (even though both are awesome!), but clothes made out of recycled fabrics. New clothing manufacturer places incredible pressures on our planet, from the water/resources needed to grow cotton plants to the carbon footprint of manufacturing and shipping, not mention the poor treatment or labourers and factory workers. Recycled clothing eliminates this entire process but “upcycling” textiles into stunning individual pieces of apparel.

4. Standing Desk

So they’re not necessarily “eco-friendly” products unless they’re made out of eco-friendly materials, but standing desks are “life/health-friendly.” Switching to a standing desk can reduce your risk of cancer, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Just make sure you still practice good posture, and you should still take a break every hour or so to walk around and stretch.

5. WORLD Hair & Skin

Of course I have to give a shout out to our products for hair and skin! Our products are all-natural, fragrance-free, gluten-free, paraben-free, sulphate-free, phthalate-free, and free of all ingredients on Environmental Defence’s Toxic Ten list. Many of the products are vegan. Best of all, they work to leave your hair/skin even more clean and beautiful than overpriced, chemical-laden salon products. From CLEAN Hair & Skin Cleanser to CANDY Scent for Hair and Skin, the WORLD team stands by each and every one of these eco-friendly products.

Remember, every little bit counts. By purchasing products that don’t continuously over exhaust our fragile earth and instead, encourage higher demands for eco-friendly materials, we can help manoeuvre the global mindset each time new products enter the market. Just follow some of these quick tips to help get you started.
