First Hair Memories
My first hair memory occurred shortly after my sister Donna and I moved to London, England from Georgetown, Guyana. My parents went ahead of us, spending sixteen months readying our home in south London and settling into their respective jobs. Donna and I lived with our grandparents, uncles and aunts during that period in a beautiful house on Church St. There are many stories, including the time Donna nearly fell out of a third story window, and me at an Indian wedding, chowing down on a vindaloo curry with the tears streaming down my face. Life with the sis and I at least was never dull.
Now with us kids finally in England, and catching up on lost time, my wonderful mother crafted a smart roller set and comb out on my unsuspecting sister, and the rest is history. In hindsight, I think Mom was a frustrated hair stylist; she was constantly cutting the family’s hair and trying out new things on us – like straightening my hair when I was 11 years old.
I feel so lucky to have such a fantastic sister. We work very effectively together – she does an amazing job as Director of Business Development for WORLD Hair and Skin and my right arm at worldSALON. In down time, we always have such a good time together with our respective families, quite often laughing uncontrollably. Hopefully she will forgive me for this post, and the photo of her first fab hairdo, and my first hair memory:
